| ZXZX is a device designed to play the eighties video game "Track & Field". The game was an early simulation of athletic events, players 'ran' by pressing buttons alternate buttons rapidly. The original aim of the work was to totally automate the game playing experience, however due to the constraints of the arcade emulator which I have been able to test the game with, total automation has not been possible. Instead ZXZX takes on most of the running in the game, as well as controlling the angle of jumps and throws. ZXZX offers a way of thinking about the cheating devices available to digital games players. It also poses the question - what does it mean to cheat or decieve a computer? |
